It's been in the works for a long time, and finally the new version of findAtutor.ca is here!

The 2 biggest changes we made were:

1. Mobile responsive! Yay!

We were early adopters registering a .mobi domain and creating a "mobile only" version of the website. This became obsolete technology within a couple of years, but we just didn't have an easy way of creating a responsive design with the old software. The new version isn't perfect yet, we'll need to do some tweaking in the coming weeks, but already the full website is much easier to navigate using smart phones or other small screen devices.

2. More flexible search capability, including a map of areas.

Again, with the old software, we didn't have a way to keep the area selection of a search saved, so if a user wanted to change their search criteria, they always had to reselect an area. Now all selections made are saved, and the searcher only needs to change the fields they want.

We've had an interactive map as part of our area definitions for years, but it never-really-quite-worked-right, so we never made it publicly accessable. Both these aspects were frustrating for searchers, and also for us trying to implement these features that were being requested so often. Now there is both!

There is a new look, some changes to layout, and for tutors and advertisers, slight differences in the way different things are accessed, but not radically different from the way it was before.

From an administrative standpoint, it's a whole new system that we will continue to be in the process of defining, refining and re-learning. From a user perspective, you won't see as much of a difference.

We've developed other new features and options, but we've only launched the basics for now as we continue to test and adapt to the new system. As we get the wrinkles smoothed out, we'll be bringing new features on-line. Tutors and advertisers will be notified by e-mail, and watch here for announcements! We'll be posting it to Facebook and Twitter as well.

So are you looking for a tutor? Start your search from our main page. If you are a tutor, learn how to post a listing from the tutor's page. Already have a listing or advertisement on the website? Login by clicking on "my account" in the menu above, and see what's new!
